We booked a table for six of us for 7.15pm on a Saturday evening. We arrived at about 6pm but this was not a problem as our table was already reserved and we were able to sit and have drinks first.

The Nelson has a very large bar/restaurant area, situated right alongside the river. You are able to sit outside on the verandah or by the large windows, which open up in the warm weather, to watch the world go by. We had two vegetarian eaters with us and they had a reasonable choice but there was plenty of choice for the rest of us. The food arrived about 20 minutes after ordering which was enjoyed by us all.

Pleasant staff and surroundings contributed to a very nice evening. The restaurant was extremely busy and I would definitely recommend booking a table.
